1971 Ft Wainwright, Alaska, no thats not a sled dog, his name was Franz and he made the trip from VA. with us. He loved to chase rabbets, but did not like the bitter cold winters.
Dec 1970 Alaka, I had been there only 3 months and had got my 1st and last bear. It was bitter cold and while driving to Ft Greely from Fairbanks, I came upon this cub along the road. After determining that his Mom was no-where around, I chased him down in the snow, a very unhappy hungry cub. A produce truck had came along and stopped to see what was going on. I got a card board box from the driver shoved the cub in the box, put the box on the floor boards and headed down the road to Delta Junction, the cub growled and hissed the whole trip.
When we got to Delta, I stopped at a gas station and called the local game warden to come get this cub. While waiting I bought two cream cakes, got in the truck, with my gloves on I opened the box and hauled the cub out. Mad he was, really raising cain untill I shoved a cake into his open mouth. Instant change in the cub ! he was on my lap grunting and puring like a cat. Someone else brought out a few more of these cream cakes, by the time the game warden showed up the cub was curled up and sleeping. The next day myself and the game warden tried to back track the cub to find its den but with no luck.
The cub ended up in a childrens zoo in near Fairbanks
